In fact, Alex, the 23-years-old girl come in contact with the Islamic recruiters, tells that &#8220;My grandparents &#8211; with which she lives &#8211; enjoy living in the middle of nowhere. I enjoy community. <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">It gets lonely here<\/span>.&#8221; She has a little physical problem and a &#8220;persistent lack of maturity&#8221;, but the story does not highlight any effective d\u00e9faillance. Her daily life, instead, seems too empty for a young woman. She dropped out of college and works two days a week as babysitter and on Sunday as a teacher for children at her church. On the other days, &#8220;<span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">she spent hours<\/span> streaming movies and <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">updating her social media timelines<\/span>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Key elements:<strong> loneliness<\/strong>, <strong>use of social networks<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"47\" data-total-count=\"7450\">2. A shocking event &#8211; the beheading of James Foley &#8211; pushs her to search information about ISIS on <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">Twitter<\/span> as to &#8220;understand why they were doing it&#8221;. Surprisingly, <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">she discovers that many people who openly identified as belonging to the Islamic State, took the time to politely answer her questions<\/span>. &#8220;One of the first relationships she struck up was with <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">a man who told her he was an ISIS fighter<\/span> named Monzer Hamad, stationed near Damascus&#8221;. &#8220;Hamad instructed Alex to download the \u201cIslamic Hub\u201d app on her iPhone. It sent her a daily \u201chadith,\u201d or saying by the Prophet Muhammad. <span style=\"color: #3366ff;\">She felt as if she finally had something to do<span style=\"color: #000000;\">&#8220;<\/span><\/span>. &#8220;If <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">before she waited hours to hear back from friends<\/span>, now her iPhone was vibrating all day with status updates, notifications, emoticons and Skype voice mail messages&#8221;.<\/p>\n<p class=\"story-body-text story-content\" data-para-count=\"128\" data-total-count=\"9155\">&#8220;Roughly two months after she first began communicating with ISIS supporters, Alex asked to see the pastor of her Presbyterian church. She wanted to know whether the idea of the Trinity that Christians believed in \u2014 God, Jesus and the Holy Spirit \u2014 meant they were polytheists.Friendly at first, <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">the pastor ushered her out after 15 minutes, telling her she needed to trust in the mystery of God<\/span>&#8220;.<\/p>\n<p>Key elements: <strong>recruiters readily available<\/strong> and <strong>always forthcoming\u00a0<\/strong>vs distant friends and adults of real life,\u00a0 <strong>assignment of tasks\/purposes &gt; the recruit feels like her life makes sense<\/strong>.<\/p>\n<p>3. &#8220;One of her new Muslim \u201csisters\u201d sent Alex a <span style=\"color: #0000ff;\">$200 gift certificate<\/span> to <a href=\"http:\/\/IslamicBookstore.com\" target=\"_\">IslamicBookstore.com<\/a>. She and others chose books for Alex and mailed them to her home. They included an English-language Quran and a basic study guide&#8221;. &#8220;Starting in January, packages began arriving on the stoop of Alex\u2019s home, bearing the Royal Mail logo and Faisal\u2019s address in England.
